Attractions at the park include thrill rides such as Electric Eel Sky Rocket II and Journey to Atlantis water coaster, while Rescue Jr. for children opens May 27 and will feature exciting play elements, a splash pad, climbing structures and rides.

The History of SeaWorld

SeaWorld opened for business on March 21, 1964 in San Diego, California, following its creation by four UCLA graduates who wanted to open an underwater restaurant but ultimately decided on creating a marine zoological park instead.

SeaWorld opened with just a few sea lions, dolphins, and two seawater aquariums, drawing over 400,000 visitors during its inaugural year of operation. Soon thereafter it went public and expanded with additional parks opening in Ohio (opened 1970 and since closed), Orlando (1973, now closed), and San Antonio (1988).

Today the company boasts a world-renowned collection of marine animals featured in breathtaking shows and educational attractions. You'll see Shamu in One Ocean killer whale show; up close with penguins at Wild Arctic; take a ride down Manta water coaster; it's truly amazing place that provides memorable experiences to inspire and engage visitors of all ages; you won't want to leave! Plus don't forget the brand new Arctic Rescue roller coaster coming 2022 that will replace Wild Arctic building!

The Park’s Thrill Rides

SeaWorld San Diego offers something for everyone at this theme park. Water rides such as Electric Eel are popular attractions here. Additionally, there are some worthwhile shows like Orca Underwater Viewing Exhibit and Killer Whales Show to witness.

SeaWorld offers many thrilling rides, such as the Manta roller coaster, Shipwreck Rapids and Arctic Rescue. Shipwreck Rapids is an Intamin river rapids ride themed as a shipwreck on a desert island – riders pass by an exhibit featuring Sea Turtles at one point during this ride!

Younger riders will enjoy Sesame Street Bay of Play area which features Elmo's Flying Fish, Abby's Sea Star Spin and Oscar's Rockin' Eel rides, Riptide Rescue is an exciting little-explorer ride where children climb into yellow life raft seats to embark on a simulated sea turtle rescue mission and Emperor is an impressive floorless dive coaster named after one of the largest penguin species whose amazing underwater diving capabilities it resembles.

The Park’s Animals

SeaWorld is home to thrilling attractions as well as dedicated zoological teams working to rehabilitate injured animals back into their natural environments. A portion of each guest admission goes toward supporting animal conservation initiatives.

Visitors to the park's aquariums and marine life shows can witness this work first-hand. Visitors can gaze upon two-ton walruses in Wild Arctic habitat; look through an underwater viewing tunnel for shark sightings; or count teeth of rescued sea otters at Otter Outlook.

The park also offers non-animal entertainment such as live shows, musical acts and spectaculars that do not involve animals. This summer marks an addition of Arctic Rescue – West Coast's longest and fastest straddle coaster – as part of its line up which also features stunt shows, parades, mermaid meet and greets and the continuation of FantaSEA performances.

The Park’s Events

Wild Arctic theme park visitors can delight in world-renowned shows showcasing marine animals. Dine alongside sea turtles or relax next to beluga whales while dining or taking in the sights & sounds.

Springtime is an ideal time to visit a theme park, when lines are shorter and the weather is pleasanter. Since it can take several hours for the park to become active and become full, arriving shortly after opening time would be most optimal.

Educational programs for children and teens provide them with a chance to explore ocean life, discover its importance in preservation efforts, and meet some incredible animals like bottlenose dolphins or Asian small-clawed otters in close encounters. Reservation-only animal encounters provide another thrill; imagine getting up close with these sea life marvels like bottlenose dolphins or Asian small-clawed otters! For the adventurous traveller looking for thrills, check out the Arctic Rescue snowmobile-themed launch coaster ride which changes throughout the year!
